Sage Upstate holds an annual Halloween Dance, a Spring Dance, potlucks, and other social events throughout the year. Here's a look at what's coming up.
Common Bonds: September 25, 2010
Common Bonds is an institute on diversity that will help SAGE Upstate reach its goal of serving ALL older LGBT people. The workshop is diverse itself, featuring movement, writing, discussion and video segments. The event, held on Saturday, September 25 from 9am to 4pm, includes lunch and refreshments.
"Common Bonds" is an event that seeks to acknowledge the "isms" that divide us from within our community and to discover the bridges that connect us. What is unique about this experience is the focus of hope, healing, learning and how to better establish relationships.
The Art of Aging: September 18, 2010
The Art of Aging will offer classes in photography, creative writing, and pastels. A kick-off workshop will be held on September 18, followed by 3, 8-week classes over the next year. The program will foster creativity in a social setting to enhance the health and well-being of participants. Learning to conceive and execute works in pastels, photographs or stories can stimulate brain functioning, improve emotional functioning, provide a new venue for self-expression, and promote self-esteem.
SAGEWorks
SAGEWorks is a work-readiness program to help older LGBT workers build skills for today's worksplace. Orientations and computer classes will start this fall. SAGEWorks will offer participants the ability to increase their job skills, and gain a deeper understanding of job search strategies in a supportive and LGBT-affirming environment. The program will help participants increase technology and job skills through computer classes and other work readiness resources. Watch for further details to be coming.
